Definition Mala
:
Mala beads
are traditional prayer beads used to count meditation mantras.
Both Buddhist and Hindu use 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm and 16mm beads, with the exception of some gemstone and seed beads that may vary slightly.
Also the count of beads matters as well, in Buddhism the count is
multiples of 9
, bracelets being 18 or 27 beads and an additional neutral guru bead.
For a necklace, 108 beads are used with an additional guru bead.
Conventional Buddhist tradition counts the beads at 108, signifying the mortal desires of mankind.
Definition Sandalwood
:
Sandalwood
is the name of a class of fragrant woods from trees in the genus Santalum. The woods are heavy, yellow, and fine-grained, and unlike many other aromatic woods they retain their fragrance for decades. As well as using the harvested and cut wood, essential oils are also extracted from the woods for use. Both the wood and the oil produce a distinctive fragrance that has been highly valued for centuries. Consequently, the slow-growing trees have been overharvested in many areas.
Sandalwood
extracted essential oil provides perfumes with a striking wood base note.
